RESUMEN (Paula Andrea Diaz, CTS, Miercoles 10- 12 AM)

I think this paper discusses the importance of improving living conditions and that this is associated with advancing technology.
It is said that a recent study indicates that Colombia three years ago invested 1.7 billion pesos in science, or 0.4 percent of gross domestic product. According to this research is said that Latin American countries are far from reaching levels of investment as has the United States or Canada but Brazil is the only country in the continent that is above the threshold of investment in science and technology. In South America the investment amount is 0.4 percent while the ideal is 1 percent. Thanks to this study recognizes that Colombia is not adequately leveraging international resources to support the development of science technology and innovation in the world.
Colombia has also said that a total of 12,000 active researchers across the country ie, 273 scientists per million inhabitants. One of the most positive indicators since increased demand academic programs, in 2000 presented 43 programs while in 2007 there were 73. This means that the country is making great efforts to train professionals. For the same reason the ITM sees the need for the heart of its academic activity that has to do with science, technology and society (CTS).
The ITM is a public university attached to the Mayor of Medellin, offering a cultural service in higher education for the training of human resources in science and technology. Studies on science technology and society are related to approaches inspired by the "strong program" of the sociology of scientific knowledge which considers the results of science to the products of technology are socially constructed, ie that such results or products constitute the point of arrival of contingent processes in which social interaction is decisive.
Today, CTS is a work camp and interdisciplinary character, dedicated to studying the social dimension of science and technology, both in terms of their social background and in regard to social and environmental consequences. A variety of academic orientations of fields such as sociology of reflection and proposals for institutional change as ethics engineering or technology assessment studies, together in this diverse field. The CTS has a course designed by powers which seek to develop in students the ability to recognize and understand the concepts of science, technology, technology and society and their interrelationships, in the context of STS and technology training.
Consistent with the foregoing, it is very important to recognize, then, that the technological and engineering work of the XXI century is primarily a social and humanistic work, hence it is no exaggeration to associate with the technologist and engineer as a "social study" you're bound to transcend the purely explanatory frameworks of operational efficiency of technological systems and become a valid interlocutor in society and the world that demands systematic and interdisciplinary actions to address the enormous challenges of social and environmental destruction resulting from partial and unconnected actions .
